Uninstalling Citrix 9.3.3 tools when VM crash

Environment​

  • A Windows VM that crashes with Citrix 9.3.3 guest tools installed.

Procedure​

  1. Reboot several times until you enter the Windows Recovery dialog.

  2. Choose Troubleshoot, then Startup Settings, then Restart.

  3. Boot in Safe Mode with Networking.

  4. Log in to the VM.

  5. Download the file https://fohdeesha.com/vates/Xen-Tools-Cleaner.zip and extract it as a folder on the desktop.

  6. Run Windows Powershell as Administrator.

  7. Execute the command:

    Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Bypass
  8. Run the script uninstall_services_and_drivers.ps1.

  9. Press Enter through all of the prompts.

  10. Once the script completes, disable Manage Citrix PV drivers via Windows Update on the VM's Advanced tab.

  11. Click the option to Force Reboot the VM.

  12. Log in to the VM.

  13. Uninstall the Citrix Guest Tools.

  14. Reboot.

  15. Install a version of Citrix Guest Tools earlier than 9.3.3.

  16. Reboot.

Verification​

After the final reboot, the VM runs with the earlier Citrix Guest Tools version installed instead of 9.3.3.
