Hardware compatibility list
Search this list to check whether a server, network adapter, storage controller, GPU or CPU is known to work with XCP-ng. Use the search field for a vendor or model name, and the filters to narrow by category, compatibility level or XCP-ng version.
Ecosystem overview
An active ecosystem of partners surrounds Vates VMS at every layer of the stack:
Hardware ecosystem
Beyond the hardware compatibility list, Vates works directly with hardware vendors: we collaborate to validate designs, provide detailed information on specific configurations, and make it possible to purchase models with XCP-ng pre-installed. This page presents these partnerships; to check a specific server, network adapter or storage controller model, search the compatibility list.
Storage ecosystem
In XCP-ng, VM disks live in a Storage Repository (SR). The XAPI storage module does all the heavy lifting: you point XCP-ng at a disk, a partition, or a network share, and it handles formatting and management for you. SRs can be thin or thick provisioned, and local or shared across a pool.
Backup ecosystem
Xen Orchestra: the native backup solution
Network
Network solutions complement the platform's built-in virtual networking: routers, firewalls and network operating systems run as VMs on XCP-ng, serving the workloads around them.
Hosting providers
You can run XCP-ng outside your own walls for various reasons: getting rid of your own hardware, disaster recovery, or a hybrid setup mixing on-premises and hosted infrastructure. Several providers are known to work well for hosting XCP-ng on dedicated servers.
Virtual desktop (VDI)
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) delivers Windows and Linux desktops and applications from your virtualization platform to any device, centralizing management and keeping data in the datacenter. XCP-ng and Xen Orchestra provide the platform layer; a connection broker on top handles desktop provisioning, user sessions and access.
Monitoring and optimization
Monitoring and optimization solutions give you visibility over your virtualized infrastructure and act on it: monitoring, capacity planning, cost optimization, and energy and carbon footprint reduction. Xen Orchestra includes built-in metrics and dashboards for day-to-day visibility, exposes everything natively to Prometheus and Grafana, and validated vendor solutions cover the advanced use cases.
