After purchasing XCP-ng, Xen Orchestra or XO Proxy licenses, or a Vates VMS Bundle, the licenses must be activated on your infrastructure. This article explains how to assign them and how to move them later. For any issue, or to purchase additional licenses, contact sales@vates.tech.

Environment

  • A Xen Orchestra Appliance (XOA) registered with your Vates account.
  • Licenses purchased on the account portal.
  • All license operations are done from the Xen Orchestra web interface:
Xen Orchestra
The Xen Orchestra web interface
License operations live in the left menu: Home > Pools for XCP-ng, the XOA menu for Xen Orchestra itself.

Procedure

Assign an XCP-ng license

warning

Every host of the pool must have a license and all licenses must be the same support level.

  1. In Xen Orchestra, open the Home tab and select Pools.
  2. Choose your pool and open the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Licenses section, click Binding XCP-ng Licenses.
  4. Select the license to bind and click OK.

Move an XCP-ng license

  1. Open the Home tab and select Pools.
  2. Choose your pool and open the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Licenses section, select the XCP-ng license to unbind, then bind it to the target host.
warning

You cannot rebind a license that has been previously unbound from a host. Only unbind a license as part of moving it.

Assign a Xen Orchestra license

  1. In your appliance, open the XOA tab and select Licenses.
  2. Select the correct product and click Activate License.
  3. Enter the confirmation text.
  4. Update your appliance to apply the change.

Move a Xen Orchestra license

  1. Open the XOA tab and select Licenses.
  2. Select the license bound to another appliance and choose Move license to this XOA.
  3. Update the appliance to apply the change.

Bind an XO Proxy

  1. Open the Proxies tab and click Deploy a Proxy.
  2. Select the destination network and enter the HTTP proxy address if one is required.
  3. Point your backup jobs at the deployed proxy instead of the main XOA VM.

Verification

Back on the pool page, the message XCP-ng Pro Support enabled on this host confirms the XCP-ng binding, and the XOA > Licenses view lists every license with the appliance or host it is bound to.
